After the 2nd WW the Russians and Americans divided Germany into two parts, BRD (Bondsrepubliek Duitsland ) and DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik also called Eastern Germany ) this was in the period of 1949-1990. While West-Germany developed into a great economical country, the East remain poor. The DDR was part of the Warsaw Pact, the opposite of NATO. The map give a good indication where those Eastern cars were driven.

We know these cars, because some of them were imported into Western Europe. Some were funny, other might be ugly, but one thing they all had in common; they used to be of low quality. Some of these cars had a two stroke engine.

Brands we knew were: Trabant, Tatra, Skoda, Lada, Wartburg and Zastava. Of course there were many more brands.

Some of these brand still exist, however in a different form. Skoda was bought by the Volkswagen Group and became famous. Here are a few links:

Mercedes E 280 restored

Water can do major damage to a car, even to a Mercedes. Often caused by old rubbers at the doors or windows. We had to take the interior apart and the windows out to be able to see where the car was rotten.

The car was also in need of two new front fenders and the owner decided to have the car painted, of course the new lacquer has the same quality as original. Next to this we did a total checkup: brakes, exhaust, etc.

To make this car ‘spot on’ a new upholstery was added. When finished, you have a new car, drives new and smell new. Another happy customer!

Daimler Sovereign, elegance ‘pur sang’

Jaguar Daimler Sovereign was build between 1966 and 1983 and it stands for higher quality and luxury. It became the upgrade for the XJ-series. It was a most exciting project to be part of. Full body restoration, overhauled engine and interior.

We started to disassemble the car, to locate all bad spots in the chassis, so those could be repaired. We selected all chromium parts, so they could be sent to be chromized.

Most major parts of a Daimler can be easy fixed or overhauled. Here you see the unique rear suspension. The whole unit is to be placed in one go.

Conversion Mercedes W110 oldie to daily

This car was known as the ‘Heckflosse’, because of its wings and produced between 1961 and 1965. The most of them were equipped with a 55 hp diesel engine. Not really suitable for todays traffic. We stripped the whole car, took all the bad parts out and updated/restored it for daily use. Beneath you can see how we started and as German quality suspects: not that bad.

Here you can see all the repairs and replacements we have done. New body parts are difficult to get or amazing expensive, if we can we repair, we do.

We rebuilt the W110-190D with overhauld or new parts. We swapped the slow diesel engine for a 2JZ Toyota engine with automatic gearbox. Added some features like power-steering, central lock and a rear view camera.

Custom MG with power pack!

I consider this project as a double one, restoring the car and modify it. The customer provided all the special parts, along with the MGB of 1967. The start of this project was a bit disappointing, the chassis of the car was in a terrible condition, this has to be fixed first.

ผมได้รวม 2 โครงการเข้าด้วยกัน คือ การยกเครื่องและแต่งรถ ลูกค้าจัดหาอะไหล่ที่ต้องการเป็นพิเศษ รวมไปถึง MGB ปี 2513 ด้วย ตอนเริ่มโครงการนี้ไม่น่าพึงพอใจเท่าไรนัก เนื่องจาก เพลารถอยู่ในสภาพที่แย่มาก ซึ่งต้องซ่อมก่อนเป็นสิ่งแรก

Before the MGB could see the paint shop, we had to fit all new major parts like axles, engine, gearbox, wheels and even a wide-body kit. Wow! Fitting in a huge engine in such a small car, was really a challenge. The Ford V8 was provided by Ford Motorsports, along with the 5 speed manual transmission.

When a car is modified to a huge amount of power (450hp) it is advisable to adapt everything to handle that amount of power. Suspension, axle, brakes and perhaps a roll-bar if the car is used on the circuit. We always advise our customers about safety.
