Dear readers, Small story about me. I am Mr. Paul Cornelis, I was born 1960 in The Netherlands. I have a strong passion for cars since I was young. After my technical school, I was hired as a car mechanic at Mercedes Nederland and in those years it was that I worked my way up to Chief Engineer. On a later date I worked at Toyota and Nissan too. In my private time, I repaired and restored classic and semi-classic cars. Brands you might not even heard from it, like Lada, Zastava or Skoda. Now, about 17 years ago, I emigrated to Thailand and started a business in classic car restoration and repairs. It seems that there was a real need for knowledge about older European cars and still I’m servicing those types of cars. A few years ago the structure of the company changed, the name changed into Suphan Classic, but the job remains the same. The passion remains the same. We love your car. To be able to move a bit further, I invested in social media (people need to know where you are and what we are doing) and before the end of the year we will have our own company website with projects we have done and tips & tricks. It was almost a year, that the new engine and transmission arrived. This due export problems, which had to be solved in person! As you can read, it’s not always easy to get what you want. Meanwhile we could do some…. have a look for yourself at some pictures we did not posted before.

The Chrysler was hit hard by time, the pictures speak for themselves. The saloon wasn’t even straight anymore, its not to say what has happened during the years. It took a lot of effort to make this car 100% again.

Chrysler ผุพังไปตามเกาลวลา ภาพจะเป็นตัวเล่าเรื่องได้เป็นอย่างดี ตัวรถไม่ตรงอีกต่อไป ต้องใช้ความพยายามอย่างยิ่งที่จะให้รถกลับมาดี 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์อีกครั้ง

The best option is to sandblast all the metal parts. This way we can see clearly how the condition is of the steel. We have corrected and repaired the body on to the millimetre. The doors and windows needed special hand fabricated tools (see blog before) to reach the goal. Every irregularity in the plate material has to be corrected, all by hand.

The Valiant went to one of the best classic painters of Thailand. One job at the time, prepare on too the smallest detail for a top result. Quality cost time and money. Top quality paint ain’t cheap either.

It is too much to mention what we have done to the 105. Everything is the best word to describe. Usually we start with the rebuild of the engine next to the body work and axles. We like to provide a rolling chassis first, so the car can be painted. We do the rough body protection all in our shop.

Dodge Dart 1965

We were honored to be asked to make this beautiful car drive able again. We have serviced the whole car, including the electric wiring. Now it’s safe and running very well with it’s 1-JZ engine. So smooth again.

The Dart name originally appeared on a 1956 Chrysler show car featuring a streamlined body designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia. It was produced from 1960 till 1976. The Dart became smaller during the years, from full size sedan to mid-size and this one is the compact. The compact used to be equipped with a straight six engine, which later on became a small block V8.

ชื่อ Dart ปรากฏขึ้นครั้งแรกในงานจัดแสดงรถ Chrysler ปี พ.ศ. 2499 รถมีรูปทรงที่สามารถแล่นผ่านอากาศได้สะดวก ซึ่งออกแบบโดย Carrozzeria Ghia บริษัทอิตาเลียนผู้สร้างตัวรถ (คล้ายรถม้า) มันถูกผลิตขึ้นระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2503 – 2519 Dart มีขนาดเล็กลงไปเรื่อย ๆ จากขนาดซีดาน ปรับเล็กลงไปเป็นขนาดกลาง และรถยนต์นั่งคันนี้ก็มีขนาดเล็กลงไปกว่าเดิม รถยนต์นั่งขนาดเล็กใช้เครื่องยนต์หกเครื่องเรียงต่อกันเป็นระนาบ ต่อมาพัฒนาเป็นเครื่อง V8

After a general inspection we decided to start with safety first. Suspension and brakes. The car seems to be a barn find, so we had to take it all apart, renew, repair and test. The fuel tank was a mess, this often happen with classic cars and usually forgotten to replace or maintain. Did you know that fuel of 6 months old can’t be used again?

หลังจากเราตัดสินใจที่จะเริ่มจากความปลอดภัยเป็นอันดับแรก คือ ระบบกันสะเทือนและเบรก ดูเหมือนว่ารถจะถูกจอดเก็บไว้เป็นเวลานาน เราต้องถอดชิ้นส่วนรถออกมา เปลี่ยนอะไหล่ ซ่อม และลองขับ ถังน้ำมัน ซึ่งรถคลาสสิกมักจะถูกละเลยในการเปลี่ยนอะไหล่หรือขาดการบำรุงรักษา คุณทราบหรือไม่ว่าน้ำมันที่ทิ้งไว้นานถึง 6 เดือน ไม่สามารถใช้ได้อีกต่อไป

Lucky there was a 1-JZ under the hood, strong reliable engine made by Toyota. This engine needed maintenance! Doing so, we discovered a few problems with the wiring. We also made the cluster work and gave it a ferm overhaul.

โชคดีที่รถมีเครื่อง 1-JZ ซึ่งเป็นเครื่องยนต์ที่วางใจได้ในเรื่องแข็งแกร่งทนทาน ซึ่งผลิตโดย Toyota เครื่องยนต์จำเป็นต้องได้รับการบำรุงรักษา เราได้พบปัญหาบางอย่างเกี่ยวกับการเดินสายไฟ เราได้ทำความสะอาด ซ่อมแซมเกจ์ทำให้สามารถใช้การได้ดีกับเครื่องยนต์ใหม่

Mercedes w 105 (ponton) 1958 – part 1

We are happy to announce the arrival of this rare Mercedes. It will be a full restoration and through our web site we will keep you informed about the progress. It’s an original Mercedes Ponton 1958, used but in a reasonable condition (the car is still complete) The type 219 was equipped with a 84 HP engine and could do 148 km/h.

The Mercedes-Benz “Ponton” series are a range of car models from Daimler-Benz, introduced starting in July 1953, dominated by sedans / saloons, and nicknamed ‘Ponton’, the German word for “pontoon”, referring to the boxed overall shape of the cars of the cars — a postwar car design change, also generally known as ponton styling. Aside from the obvious visual innovation, the Benz ‘Ponton’ car design introduced construction changes that significantly improved automotive safety for passengers through better crash protection. Classic cars usually arrive by tow-truck which the customers arrange themselves, simply because our customers are located through all Thailand. We do provide the service to visit the customers’ cars, usually for free or a small fee.

First we locate the major problems, worn chassis, technical problems and overall condition. After this we are going to check the availability of new parts and in consultation with the customer a plan of restorement.

ขั้นแรกเราหาที่มาของปัญหาใหญ่ ๆ โครงรถที่ชำรุด ปัญหาทางเทคนิคและสภาพทั่วไป จากนั้นเราตรวจสอบความเป็นไปได้ในการหาอะไหล่ใหม่และปรึกษากับลูกค้าในการวางแผนปรับปรุงซ่อมแซมรถ

As you can see is every part documented and stored. Every part is checked on condition and will be restored, replaced or upgraded.

It has been a year that this 500+ hp car was in our garage. So it took a while to show you some new pictures, but here they are! We enjoy it, I hope you will too.

The main reason for this visit is the yearly maintenance, oil, cooling fluid, the common things. Discuss some improvements or adaption with the owner.

500+hp in such a small car, goes beyond imagination. Everything goes in a split second, faster than any big bike you meet on the road. Faster than any modified pickup truck. It needs a firm hand, the owner is a skilled driver.

Sure, we do regular maintenance for any daily, classic and semi-classic. But special projects like this one, we also perform to other classics. It goes from simple modification to high level performance packages. You name it, we fix it.
